Re: So whats VR-4 stand for?

Its been debated forever, here are the 3 major contendors

Viscous Realtime 4WD
Viscous Realtime AWD with 4 Wheel Stearing
And something that eludes to the 4, 4 wheel systems. I think they are ABS, AWD, AWS, 4 wheel independant suspension, but I may be wrong on that.

Re: So whats VR-4 stand for?

galant VR-4's were AWS
DSM's with viscous realtime AWD but no AWS were called GSX's

so there is the argument for #2

Re: So whats VR-4 stand for?

they had an interview with david o'connell, one of the lead designers for the 3000gt and they were going to release a video of the whole history of 3/s's and i think that is one of the questions they asked him. it keeps getting pushed back though. they are pretty close to done with the video i think. last i checked they needed a few pix or something. if you're interested i have two links for the video.

i personally really want to see this video. it sounds really cool but it keeps getting put off.

Re: So whats VR-4 stand for?

i'm willing to wager money on this.

VR-4 stands for "velocity with reason secured by four of everything."

i remember reading that in a mitsu pamphlet a long time ago. i think its that pamphlet from which i posted pictures. its translated into German adn French, though. my French is rusty, but i'll try to dig it up and find the translated french phrase.

the VR-4 explanation refers to what talskinyguy mentioned above, here.

There have been pamphlets from mitsu that said the 2nd and the 3rd things I posted. Some say the 2nd thing, some say the 3rd.

I think youre correct. "Viscous Realtime-4" is one of the biggest misconceptions floating around. I think the French version reads "vitesse avec la raison 4", or similar.
