2004 PT Cruiser Problem

Hi,
When I'm sitting in the car and its idleing, I noticed the lights dim a couple of times and sometimes the car even feels like it will quit for a few seconds. The RPM indicator looks like it fluctuates pretty low too. Does anybody know the cause of this?

is the A/c compressor kicking in and out ? test at idle with no air or defrost and the hood up and have someone watch to see if it cycles
