'99 Caravan power window
I have a '99 Caravan (3.0 L V6) with a power window problem. The driver's side window will work for two or three times up and down and then it quits working until is sits for a few minutes.
After a few minutes it will go up or down a little farther and stop again. After reading a post here that suggested cleaning the motor and armature, I tried that this evening, but the window acts the same, even after the contacts were cleaned. Can someone suggest how I might remedy this issue, please? Is there a relay or a fuse that might begin to fail and cause this? Is the motor just getting weak? Or is it something else entirely? |

Re: '99 Caravan power window
I'm betting the motor is weak either because something is binding up the window or just on it's own. Clean the window guides at either side of the window inside the door and inspect the metal tracks the mechanism rides in for anything out of place. If all is well, you could try using an ohmeter and measure the motor windings resistance when cold then when hot. When hot you may read zero ohms meaning the winding has opened up. Make sure you get voltage at the motors connector every time the switch is thrown. If you get voltage, change the motor and/or the entire window regulator assembly. $85 plus shipping at A1auto.com. You can get them cheaper but, I've always had great service from these guys. Dealer wants $165. Saw them for $47 on Ebay but, I don't support thieves.
My 96 is sitting in the driveway with the drivers window regulator removed waiting on a new one from A1auto. The window wouldn't raise. Motor worked fine but, a plastic bracket on the left track broke which snarled the cables. Fuses don't begin to fail. They fail. If the fuse was bad the windows wouldn't move at all. When checking the voltage at the motor connector you are ensuring the switch and the relay are good.

Re: '99 Caravan power window
I appreciate the advice. From what I've seen in messing with it, I agree with your assessment that it's the motor.
I'll let you know what happens when I get new stuff in it. Thanks. |

Re: '99 Caravan power window
All you need to order is a power window regulator. It will come with the tracks, cable, and a new motor. From what I've seen in looking around, you can't order a regulator w/o the motor - so even if your motor is good, but a cable is broken/frayed, you get to order the whole assembly. My local Napa sells a new regulator assembly for $115 + tax. I had to do both sides on my '97.

Re: '99 Caravan power window
Sorry to bust in on you. I have a 99 dodge caravan and the window came off the track. How do I fix it? Somewhat mechanically inclined. Already took the door panel off and disconnected to power where do go from here?
Thank you alatatorrunaround |

Re: '99 Caravan power window
![]() I payed $145.00 for a OEM motor only. The old one lasted 9 years and I felt it was easier to change just the motor, than to scrape my knuckles pulling out the whole assembly. The whole job took less than an hour. It came with a new spool cover and I wrapped a few extra cable clamps ( not shown in the photo) around it to keep it attached. |
