buying a sentra

Hey guys

I'm starting to look through the dealerships and all their sentra's and something seems weird.

of all the Spec-v's they have in stock at all the dealerships, only one yellow spec-v has the ABS. The others have sunroof/audio, but no ABS, is it that rare??

Should I even care about the ABS??? what do you guys think?

andrew

It depends on where you live. If you're gonna drive the car in rain and snow, then you should get abs. but again, my dad had his no abs camry for like 9 years and it was never in an accident where abs could've prevented it. the abs is still a good to have, my opinion.

ABS

I think ABS is fantastic for bad drivers, or just inexperienced drivers. If you freak out and just mash that brakes, ABS can save your arse. If you are a good driver, and have good reaction time, and can think, and make good judgements, and you know your car, ABS is actually a detriment.

I had a Saab with ABS, and it cost me an accident, because I could have easily avoided the accident if the system had not taken over and ratcheted the braking.

ABS is most effective in keeping an emergency braking situation in a straight, or controllable line. It prevents you from skidding sideways and out of control.

Your call!

i like my abs. its also not a matter of if you are a good driver or not. according to magazines such as sport compact car, all the stop tests they did, abs always stopped faster. i know a lot of guys who don't like it though. it is really up to you

actually i had an incident last night as a matter of fact. i was driving pretty fast passing the other cars on the freeway when all of a sudden traffic had stopped. i suddenly slammed on the brakes and started steering to the off shoulder because i didnt want to hit the car infront of me. Before i knew it my car had stopped a couple of feet behind the other vehicle. Without abs i knew for sure i would've hit that sucka because it has happened before.Long story short---> get abs because no one is a perfect driver.

I'd agree that ABS can be good for the unskilled driver. I'd also agree that ABS can be a detriment to the skilled driver. Don't forget that insurance companies give discounts if your car is equipped with ABS. I would also like to throw in that not all ABS are the same.

For example, the Subaru Impreza. Subaru tests the car so that it will handle on a frozen lake in Hokaido. The result is that the ABS is considered too sensitive by many drivers. A lot of high performance manuveurs require the driver to induce momentarily a loss of traction. The Subaru ABS reacts so fast at so little provocation I've been told it's impossible to induce this behavior via braking.

Overall I'd say I'm thankful I have ABS. Saved my but a few times last night. I needed to get someone to the airport while it was raining. And I had to do it fast. So back to my previous post that ContiSports are not good even when dry, I can honestly say I felt the ABS kick in several times as I took a backroad short cut to avoid the highways and rush hour. So I got him to the airport with ten minutes till departure and I never got a cell phone call back, so he must have made it. ABS made it possible for me to do performance driving in conditions I wouldn't normally drive at the speeds I was doing.

I pulled the abs out of my mr2-I've driven in rain and snow and not had a problem. It's all a preference thing to the driver. I know a lot of skilled drivers that like it and a lot that don't. Find a cool salesmen and testdrive both-see what you like.
