I have no idea what the problem is.

I have a really big problem. My 1995 GSX (that I just bought) is....idk. I was on the highway and heard a big pop. One big pop. My car died so I got it towed home. My idle is anywhere from 200-600 and I'm just dumping raw fuel out of the exhaust. Black smoke. I already changed out the spark plugs and the wires. I also tried switching out the regulator with one from my friend's gst. No change. The odd thing was when I unplugged my fuel pump it ran like it was supposed to, at a good idle until I died. I figured there was way too much fuel being dumped into the engine. There is a high flow fuel pump in it with no adjustable regulator and stock injectors. I ordered an adjustable regulator and bigger injectors. Just waiting for them to come in. Another thing is that when my lights are on and I revved it the lights would dim so I think it may be my alternator but would that make my idle suck and dump raw fuel? I don't know. Please help me out. I really really need it. THANKS

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

Sounds like a head gasket IMO. Was the pop from the front, back? It doesn't seem like a "blown" fuel pump could even exsist. It either works or it doesn't.

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

It was from the front. I'm not leaking any oil or anything so I didn't think it would be the head gasket. I was thinking that the injectors are being overrun and they just aren't closing so they are just dumping fuel all the time. But that still wouldn't explain the pop. So I'm not sure.

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

I really cant think of anything that would make a loud pop like that. The HG could be leaking inside, not nessecarily blown outward. Fuel could be leaking inside the engine when it shouldn't be.

When the engine is on, is there any knocking from the engine? Any check engine lights? Change your oil and see if there's any coolant in it.

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

Check the turbo and the piping. I had a same problem when a coupler came off. Car was burning fuel like crazy, idle was around 400. I would check for a boost leak and see how the turbo is doing. I believe your problem is there.

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

I've already fixed all the boost leaks and the turbo is brand new. I'll take the head off tom. and check the headgasket and I'll double check all the piping. Thanks for all the input.

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

Before you go yanking the head off, why not save yourself a bunch of time and do a compression test.

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

OK. I checked the compression and it's 120psi in every cylinder. I checked or leaks and there aren't any. I run good at idle but I still think my injectors are stuck open because I go all the way rich when I go above idle and rev. Any other guesses before my injectors come in?

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

Well, 133psi is the service limit, with 178psi being "perfect". Couple questions about your test....

Did you make sure the engine was up to operating temperature before the test? Did the battery have a full charge? Did you have the gas pedal floored during cranking? A cold engine and half dead battery can lead to low compression numbers.

I would also pour a little oil in each cylinder and rerun the test. This will give us more information about the cause of the low compression.

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

My foot was not to the floor and no the engine was not up to operating temperature. I can't do the compression test until tom. because my friend just went home with it. But all were 120psi so if I was warmed up then it would be higher right?

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

You need to do the compression test after the car is fully warmed up. The battery also needs to be fully charged and you should have the car at WOT.

Here, read this:

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

Ok I replaced the injectors with some 450cc's from a gs-t my friend is working on just to see what would happen. Nothing changed. I don't mean to sound retarded but can someone send me or show me which spark plug wires go where? I think I may have them good but I want to make sure. THANKS

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

Hmmmm.... shitty idle, super rich, and a big pop from the front of the car. Are you SURE you checked all pipes?

Re: I have no idea what the problem is.

Ya I'm sure but I was thinking about tearing all the piping off and looking at every damn spot on that piping to make sure....again.
