Power Lift Gate Blues

2002 Grand Caravan, Power Liftgate opens OK when weather is warm..just unlatches when a bit cool to cold and stops. I have tried to help it raise with no success. Any one with similar problem and fix.
Thanks
HE

Re: Power Lift Gate Blues

It's possible that the seals in the lift gate support struts are weak and allow air & moisture inside the pistons. If this is the case, you will need to replace the two struts to get the gate to open on cool days.

Re: Power Lift Gate Blues

I've got the same problem in my '01 T/C. I'm also unable to automatically lower the rear gate. I gave up on it pretty quickly. It's still cold here (35 deg. & rainy), but when it finally warms up, I'll see if it's a temperature related issue.

Is a support strut replacement fairly straightforward?

Thanks.

Refer to the Popular Mechanics article for strut replacement:

I own a '95 Voy and have no experience with automatic liftgate closure motors or mechanisms.
