ingnition switch problem

my 2005 escape has a intermitent problem,every once in a while when I try to start it I have have to hold the key on for 5-6 seconds before the starter engages,does anyone else have this problem or know what would cause it? thanks very much d.a.

Wow, I have a 2003 Escape and once in a while my car will not start on the first try. When I try again, It turns over after about 5 or so seconds. I think it's an electrical problem because the light in my clock stayed on for about 5 seconds after I turned the ignition to off. If you get an answer, plleae let me know. Thanks.
