Arrow Shocks & struts

Hello all,

1: How can I tell if I need new shocks and struts? I have a 98 Intrigue with 70k miles on it.

2: Which ones would you recommend? Is it possible to make an Intrigue ride like Buick?

As it is, my ride seems a bit stiff and there's quite a bit of rattling and squeaking going on.

TIA to all replies,
A_

Re: Shocks & struts

If any are leaking, that would be a sign you need to replace them. Unless they are doing that or you are just bouncing all the time, then you probably do not need to replace them. I have 123K on my 2000 and I do not need them.

A great set of touring tires will do wonders for the Intrigue. Buy nice ($100 each) 70K+ mile touring tires. I use BFG Control Plus 70K mile type.

Re: Shocks & struts

I asked my front-end guy when my '99 intrigue will neeed struts and he stated "when you hit a bump and the front of the car keeps bouncing up and down." (or words to that affect.)

One poster here once said that he changed his struts at 140k miles.

ok this is called jounsing you can check them yourself.first put 1 knee on front bumber and jounce it pretting good if it don't stop on the 3rd jounce if it don't that means it's time to change and do the say to rear if it jounces over 3 time before stopping they need replaced..it use to be on o.e. shocks and struts and was suppose to change every 30.000 mls.then like i said earlier i'd replace to monroe gasmatic shocks and struts as they are guaranteed as long as you own car..good luck too you......

Re: Shocks & struts

Im at over 135,000 miles and I still have the original struts. I dont have any pogoing effect after I hit bumps or anything like that.

I have a fair amount of body roll still in the corners, even with upgraded sways and TPR endlinks from MOOG. But I think some amount of body roll is expected when youre tossing a 3500+lb car through the twisties.

Exclamation Re: Shocks & struts

ok then you must take care and drive right if you have o.e.' but keep eye on your tires as they will cup if there bad..cupping is where the tires bounce on the road and get flat spots on them so keep your eye on them..

Re: Shocks & struts

I picked up the car at 105,000 miles, it was previously owned by an older couple who I assume babied it. Probably had a lot of highway mileage as well, which should be fairly easy on the struts.

The 20,000 miles since on the other hand......
