Tamiya Paint

I was just wondering if the basic spray paint colors like "black" are glossy, or if the semigloss black is more glossy than just "black". I have both of these colors and I'd prefer to paint my ITR with the glossier color. Thank you. Also, is satin black similar to matt black?

Re: Tamiya Paint

For Tamiya paints... No prefix (semi-gloss, matt) then its Gloss. So that ,means X-1 for bottled stuff, TS-14 for spray can.
For Gunze paints, a little lower to the left of the color name you will find it's type( gloss, semi-gloss, flat etc..)

Re: Tamiya Paint

Tamiya acrylic in jars: X=gloss, XF=flat/matte

Semi gloss more or less equals satin

Tamiya TS in sprays are all gloss IIRC

Satin/semigloss is a finish somewhere between gloss and flat

To a large degree you can change the finish of one kind of paint by covering it with a gloss, semi gloss/satin or matt/flat clear coat.

Re: Tamiya Paint

In the aerosols Tamiya TS- range the paint finish is usually gloss unless stated in the description e.g. with the blacks

TS-6 is Black (gloss)
TS-14 is Matt Black
TS-29 is Semi Gloss Black

Most of the car colours are gloss finish.

There are still matt and semi-gloss in the TS line.

You got TS-6 and TS-14 backwards..
TS-6 is Matt black and TS-14 is Black (gloss)
