transmission issues...
i drive an automatic 02 z28 with 28k on it. the trans is acting up though. the shift from 1st to second is rough unless i'm on the gas hard or barely at all. if i give it a normal amount of gas like starting from a light the shift is hard and jolts the car. 2nd to 3rd is a little rough to but not bad at all. the worst part is that if i'm all the way on the gas it sometimes won't upshift unless i let off a bit. it will just red line and rev... it doesn;t seem to be getting worse but i'm nervous i'm damaging it more by driving it. there is plenty of fluid in it and it was recently changed. any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Re: transmission issues...
honestly i would take it to a transmission specialist. I work for automatic transmission rebuilder and most of the time all places will do a free diagnosis and they will tell you what is wrong and if you should fix it, just take it in, they more then anyone on this site (no offence)

Re: transmission issues...
this sounds like a stuck throttle valve. it seems to be stuck in a position that creates too much pressure at idle and not enough pressure to at wide open throttle (i.e in the middle).
three solutions.... (i'm assuming that your trans is not electronically controlled) 1) -remove the transmission throttle valve line from the throttle body, it will be right next to the engine throttle (the part that moves when u hit the gas). they look similar. -take that throttle valve (TV) cable and rapidly move it in and out. if you do it hard/long enough it should unstick the TV inside the trans. 2) -find an empty road -place shifter into lowest gear (1st) -hit the gas quickly, on and off, repeatedly. dont be afraid to go full throttle then back. -this only works in a forward/reverse drive gear (i.e. not neutral or park) because there is no oil pressure thru trans in the non-moving gears. 3) take to tranny shop. they will charge $300-$400 to diagnos and unstick this valve (if this is the problem, but im confident that it is). What's the status on this??? done anything yet?

Re: transmission issues...
lol and thats smart advice to just rev up your engine in 1st when you might have a broke transmisison, dont expect any load sounds comming from under your car or anything

I would normally be annoyed with you right now, but since I realize that you are a young idoit, I can't fault you for what you say. first of all, you should go back a grade or two (to 2nd grade) and re-learn how to spell: "ownes" = owns "comming" = coming "broke" = broken im sure since your big Da-Da owns a company, that makes you an genius on the matter. that was great genius transmission advice you gave: "go pay a lot of money to have a shop look at it." people come here for real help and not empty suggestions from people who know somebody that knows alot, but actually knows nothing themselves. case in point... "load sounds". i believe you were horribly failing at an attempt to say that the engine would not be under any load while accelerating due to transmission slip... which shows more ignorance on your part because his tranny isnt slipping. it's shifting very hard, which means no slip. do us all in this community a favor and discontinue your memebership and go back to masturbating to Spongebob Squarepants.

Re: transmission issues...
I gotta chime in on the sponge bob comment. I don't know why but that just cracked me up! If anything thanks for the laugh!
but while i'm here.......i am having the same exact problem in my 99 ta with 41k. Not sure if it matters (sometimes the craziest symptoms help diagnose the root problem) but my throttle sticks at mild pressure when initially applying the gas. Just annoying but didn't know if it could be interconnected to my shifting . btw i'm an aircraft mechanic and whenever im presented with a problem i want to know every single "unrelated" discrepancy with the jet. sometimes it helps tremenduosly in fixing the "real" problem. |
