Fuel Pump?
I have a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL. with the 3.1L V6. ive been noticing some problems engine wise over the past few months, and they've been getting more frequent. I did a fuel pressure test a few months back and noticed while the engine is running, it sits around 30 PSI, just under normal idle, and normal temp and vacuum. I know the usual pressure should be around 47 or so. i was just wondering, what kind of problems can a weak fuel pump cause?
I want to see if what you guys say matches my problems, then i'll probably seriously consider a fuel pump replacment.

Re: Fuel Pump?
Well, mine is a ciera, and its a 3300-but its from the same family of engines.
When mine was going, I had a very irregular 28-33 jumpy PSI at a warm idle. My car would hesitate for a couple seconds if i gave it anymore than a quarter throttle from a dead-stop, or if i went down more than halfway it would struggle and buck until the RPMs got up-sometimes it would just stall as soon as I hit the gas. Anything more than very light throttle while cruising in OD would cause it to miss and jerk a little bit-going to the floor it would straighten out. I would replace it anyway, since the pressure is a little low. Isn't the bare minimum like 40? Mine went up to 45 after the replacement |

Re: Fuel Pump?
wow, if thats case i guess i'll go ahead and get a new pump, might as well do a sending unit too.
im getting a lot of hesitating, especially when cold, still happens sometimes at warm, when driving for a while, then stop, then go to take off it'll stumble a little bit, or if i drive for a while, let it sit, start it back up, the idle is really irratic, and sometimes if i keep tapping the gas it'll keep hesitating then eventually die, then its hard to start back up, just takes a longer crank time. does the fuel pump by any chance also need a pulsator?
