Unhappy 2004 Dodge Intrepid Tranny/Reverse/Motor Mounts

Greetings All,

Tranny (2004 Intrepid) started acting funny today. When I engage reverse the car will move, but slowly. Heavier throttle only increases RPM and adds some noise (no grinding). Moving forward seems fine, sometimes rough from 2 to 3. When I shift from N to D, I hear and feel the tranny engage. When I shift from N to R, I hear very little and feel almost nothing. Car has 109000 miles, with fluid change at 68000 miles. Could the tranny be dieing already? Engine needs new motor mounts, would this cause any problems to the tranny? Engine or Tranny has had no work other than regular maint. I am moving 1700 miles in about 2 weeks, kinda nervous. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank-You in advance.

Re: 2004 Dodge Intrepid Tranny/Reverse/Motor Mounts

Certainly possible the Tranny is starting to go. My question is when the service was done at 68K was the Tranny filled with the correct fluid? Any fluid other than ATF+4 in these Transmissions will ruin them.

It would be best to have that checked out at a dealer, they can hook a scan tool up to it and check the CVI (Clutch Volume Index, a measurement on the actual wear of the clutches inside) as well as the Solenoid Pack to make sure things are operating properly before determining that the Transmission has lived it's servicable life and needs rebuilt/replaced.

Thumbs up Re: 2004 Dodge Intrepid Tranny/Reverse/Motor Mounts

Thanks,

I cant say 100% that they put in ATF-4, I do remember them mentioning something about it, I know Kragen's dried to sell me ATF-3 but I didnt get that. Anyway I will for sure take it into the dealer, now that you have told me what to ask the dealer to check, I feel more comfortable bringing it in. Always hate their "discovery" cant find the problem fee.

Thank You Again.
