Electrical Problem...Plz HELP!!!!

I got a 1998 Jeep cherokee classic and just found out that my doorlocks and door noise alarm is screwed up. If I have the key out of the ignition and the door open, I am only allowed to unlock the doors, and the noise is always going off. Once the I close the door, I am allowed to unlock or lock the doors, and the noise is off. Everything is fine when the vehicle is on, or the accesories are on. I realize that there should be no noise when the door is open when the key is out of the ignition. What could be the problem, cause this is really pissing me off.

Cool Re: Electrical Problem...Plz HELP!!!!

There is a switch in the ignition lock that control this.

If it thinks there is a key in there, the buzzer goes off when you open the door. It also prevents you from locking the car. This is a design feature that will prevent you from locking your car with the key in the ignition switch.

It is probably sticking. If owners keep a lot of keys on their key chain, over time when driving the key wears and produce a lot of metal chips that will jam the ignition lock and possibly this switch.

No, I havent done anything or put any remote start in there. I'm going to try to look at the ignition switch and see what I can do with that.

Re: Electrical Problem...Plz HELP!!!!

So, i fixed it. I played with the ignition and that didn't help, so I opened the door, and started pressing that door buzzer in really fast, and then it stopped. But thanks for the help.

Re: Electrical Problem...Plz HELP!!!!

Just for good measure, squirt some WD-40 into that grounding switch.

Is that switch still working with the interior lights?

Everything is working like it should, but ya, I am going to squirt some stuff in there so it doesn't stick again.
