Question Oxygen sensors.. Can you use any O2 sensor for any vehicle?

I bought a Bosch 4wire sensor online under the impression that it was for my vehicle, because thats what the seller claimed it to be for. So I got it; then the serial # didnt match what the manufacturers application reference said it to be for. So I got a Ford O2 sensor from this guy when it was supposed to be for a VW.. Will it work okay? Will it mess up my car? Can I use it or Not?

Re: Oxygen sensors.. Can you use any O2 sensor for any vehicle?

the biggest issue is the heater circuit, some of them use notably different amperage, and many computers have no fail-safes for the heater circuit. IE, too many amps (too low resistance in the heater circuit) and you fry the computer.

The actual O2 sensing side of the sensor, they are pretty universal and there is no danger there
