What Boost Gauge?

Hello I have a 92 VR4, and am starting to do some minor upgrades (Bolt-on stuff). Next up is a boost controller and boost gauge (Already have done free boost mod), my question is if any auto boost gauge will do, I just want the cheapest gauge that is accurate for reading the PSi. Or if anyone has experience with a particular gauge I'd like to hear what they recommend. I've also heard that some people use dataloggers to efficiently tune boost levels specific to that individual car, I have no experience with these, and was wondering how they work/how much they cost/should I look into one? Thanks.

Re: What Boost Gauge?

basically any aftermarket boost gauge will give you accurate enough readings. If your looking into cheap boost gauges, i would go to www.summitracing.com and look at either the VDO brand or Summit brand. Although, the autometer gauges look a little bit nicer, i'd spend the extra $20 to get a less expensive autometer IMO.

Re: What Boost Gauge?

I'll toss in my 2 cents because I went the cheapest VDO route and kinda regret it. My gauge only shows boost, not vacuum as well. If hte gauge shows vacuum pressure as well, it can be helpful in telling if you have vacuum leaks. Also you wanna make sure it will go as high as you plan on boosting. If you plan on turbo upgrades down the future and running 20psi, don't buy a guage that only goes to 15. Lastly, buy one where you can see each psi clearly...so you aren't trying to figure out if you are running 11psi or 14psi...know what I mean. You want to know exactly what you are boosting...not "around 13psi".

That all said, my cheap VDO gauge does the job for now. ALso don't use that cheap plastic Autometer vacuum tubing...it sucks. Get real rubber vacuum hoses to hook it up.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

i just got my prosport gauge. haven't installed it yet but it looks badass and goes into vacuum, unlike my current one and has a light that will light up if i'm overboosting. probly one of the pricier gauges but the amber ones look almost stock and are probly the coolest gauges out there imo.

The Autometer Sport Comp match stock pretty well.
