Anti-illegal immigration activists signal their discontent with a billboard

Group posts notice against 'invasion'

Quote:
Dan Howard isn't politically correct. He doesn't care to be.

"If that's what you want, don't waste your time talking to me," he said Thursday, a day after he posted a large anti-immigration billboard on Interstate 44.

It asks: "Had Enough?"

Enough of the problems, Howard said, caused by illegal immigration, something he calls the "illegal alien invasion."

"It's immoral, illegal, inexcusable, and I'm just tired of it," he said. "Just like my billboard says."

The billboard gives a number to call and a Web site, www.outragedpatriots.com.

Outraged Patriots, a group that wants a "war on illegal immigration," was formed by Howard and Jack Horath, both former Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers.

The Web site went up this week. It links to immigrant-related news stories, most of which shed negative light on this population that has blossomed generally nationwide over the last decade.

It also links to other organizations that advocate punishing employers of illegal immigrants, strict border security and deportation of illegal immigrants -- all of which Howard supports.

"I just want to spread the word to legal U.S. citizens about the danger that our society is in right now," he said.

The billboard costs between $1,200 and $1,500 a month, he said.

He's spent about $2,500 of his own money and has a place on the Web site for people to donate to the cause.

Howard said he chose to put the billboard on I-44 near 21st Street and Mingo Road because he believes that between 600,000 and 800,000 cars pass by there each day.

Many haven't seen the bill board. Some have.

"It turned my stomach as a patriotic Mexican-American, which means I was born in the United States," said Yolanda Charney of the Governor's Advisory Council on Latin American and Hispanic Affairs.

"It just turned my stomach," she said. "And the Web site is full of inaccuracies that any intelligent person reading it can see."

Howard, an aircraft dealer and pilot, wants more billboards in Tulsa and around the state.

His big push is that people promote stringent immigration laws to their legislators.

Charney said such a reaction is "to be expected until the U.S. Congress does the work they've been voted to do and comes up with a true comprehensive immigration bill, which has been introduced."

Works for me. Of course there will be the usual ignorant comments about racism and discrimination, but it's actually about protecting our borders. You can be 100% Mexican born and raised in Tijuana - as long as you don't enter our country illegally then the billboard has nothing to do with you. How is that racism?

Shame we can't get a few around here in LA. Probably wouldn't last long before it got defaced though....well, no billboards really last long around here before being defaced with Mexican gang-related graffiti.

while I agree, illegal immigration is something that has to be dealt with but you have to admit that a site+organisation that specifically targets an area with a problem that is virtually only against a single ethnic group has to careful not to push the wrong buttons.

Dan Howard is ignorant.

It would amuse me no end if it transpired that his billboard was made from lumber worked by immigrant labour.

I'd like to see everyone as bigoted and stupid as Dan Howard put up a sign. That way I could bypass them completely. If the influx of unofficial immigrants was stopped tomorrow, the 'legal' immigrant quota would need to be raised to fill all of the jobs that the likes of Dan Howard and his ilk consider to be beneath them. The cost of many consumer items would have to rise to account for the additional taxes paid by the freshly-legalised immigrants and theitr employers.

Maybe Dan Howard should spend a year cutting cabbages or slopping out gas station toilets. Maybe he should just admit that he's scared of all Hispanics. Maybe he could offer up something a little more constuctive as an alternative instead of just bitching like a gay waiter. Whichever itr is, he gets no respect from me.He's a loser!

I can't decide if this guy is against immigration altogether or just illegal immigration.

Surprised that none of the 'patriots' who claim to support him didn't comment on his offensive misuse of the American flag. Flying the flag upside down indicates "a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property." Being a sad-ass whinger does not fall into that category.

I guess you knew where this would lead

I see too many post that direct ad hominem attacks which furthermore; immediately discredits their entire biased arguement that follows.

Shouldn't there be a sticky by now about that? Maybe it would ruin the flavor too much? opcorn: ....where did i put my 3d bifocals....

Before illegals staged a major protest in downtown LA (last Fall I believe) many stores that were made up of mostly Mexicans (legal & illegal) were flying US flags upside down. I have a hard time believing that was a coincidence that so many stores did it on "accident". Not sure if that happened in Oklahoma but perhaps that's ONE of the reasons why the flag is upside down on the billboard.

Re: Anti-illegal immigration activists signal their discontent with a billboard

You really need to be an American citizen living in America to make an intelligent comment on this subject. Non-Americans only see the benefit of the cheap labor these illegal aliens offer. They don't realize illegal aliens are paid under the table. That means they pay no income tax. That means they aren't contributing to help pay for the government services they abuse with near impugnity.

I have worked for the Dept of Public Social Services in Los Angeles. I have seen these abuses firsthand. Walk into any DPSS office and you'll find wall to wall (literally) illegal aliens holding forged documents. They are there applying for welfare and food stamps. Walk into a free medical clinic in LA and you'll find the same people there, none of whom speak any English. Street crimes are a normal way of life where they come from, and they bring their criminal tendencies with them when they come here. Hold-ups, car thefts, gangs...they cost our court system millions with their crimes. Ever hear of MS-13? Mara-Salvatrucha? If you haven't, look them up. Hopefully you'll understand the problem as it exists for the people who have to live here. Maybe you'll realize the problem goes beyond what you've read in some magazine or saw on TV. What I've described is the tip of the iceberg - they are a cancerous blight in our communities, but without living here you will have no idea of what I am talking about.

Over one-third of my hard-earned salary goes to federal and state taxes. Why don't the people who want illegal aliens in America send over some money to feed these parasitic freeloaders? Harsh words? You have no idea.

I always laugh when I hear this argument. Or the other one: "Americans are too lazy to do the menial work".

What "many consumer items" would you be speaking of? Fruit and vegetables? Already cheap, and as an American I'll be willing to pay a little more if it means the "freshly-legalised immigrants" are now paying taxes. That's about it for the "many consumer items" the illegal aliens produce. Other than farmworking, the illegal alien chief occupations in the US are dishwasher, hotel worker/maid, or criminal. No joke.

Well I thought I'd let everybody know that I'm going to Tulsa in a couple of days so I plan to actually see this billboard. I'll let you know if there is any gun shots or paintings on it.

Anyway, as for all of this, it's fucking awesome. Here's why...

Tulsa, the city this board is in, has a Mexican community now that has sprang up the past 5-7 years in the east side. With it came Mexican gangs and drug traffic. How bad is it? There was a mall in this area that lost so much business the entire thing had to shut down. People won't go there at night because these fuckers drive around with no insurence and will set you up in a wreck to get insurence money.

Speaking of insurence, a guy in our town got into a wreck with a truck full of Mexicans. They had no insurence so he's fucked as now he has to repair his car himself even though he didn't do it.

We had our meth problem under control by putting the pills behind the counters so people couldn't cook their own meth. Now our lovely neighbors south of the border are bringing it up and have caused prices to rise. This has made the meth problem worse as people need it, need more money, so crime goes up.

I work in a grocery store and see several Mexicans come in with food stamps, welfare, and WIC. This one woman did not speak one word of english so her 5 YEAR OLD daughter had to translate for her and tell me everything she was fucking saying.

These assholes are also the ones that protest on how much they love our country yet they fly the Mexican flag all over the place and put it up in place of the American.

It's simple folks. If you go to somebody's house, do you act anyway you want? No. When you go to somebody's house you show them and their property RESPECT. These fucking assholes show no respect to our country or our citizens and come here demanding that we kiss their ass. FUCK YOU. You come over here legally, learn how to speak, and we'll be cool. Coming into our country illegally and then demanding this or that is not the way to go about things.

That makes them illegals?

I always laugh when fools try to use this argument.

Pretty much every developed country has large numbers of immigrants from less fortunate countries. Countries like New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the U.S. have a long history of immigration [albeit at the expense of the indigenous people]. They all have illegal immigrants, they all have people of different culture, they all have people for whom English is not the first language.

My American partner and I are first generation immigrants. We both speak English with easily identifiable regional accents. As soon as we speak, people know that we are immigrants.

Curiously, nobody has ever insulted us by implying that we are here illegaly, stealing jobs from New Zealanders, cheating taxes, or robbing the welfare system. I've heard many Kiwis complain that their taxes are too high, but none of them have been ignorant or racist enough to suggest that it is because of illegal immigration.

The usual crew of AF rednecks have initiated this thread to perpetuate their own deluded belief that they are the master race. Not one word has been said in this thread against the millions of American born citizens who cheat on their taxes, or the millions who defraud welfare. None of the rednecks who whine about 'illegal aliens' being involved in street crime have said jack shit about the millions of American citizens rightfully jailed for criminal activities. Perhaps you racist dickheads would care to contradict me, but I can't think of a single mass murderer or serial killer caught in the United States in the last 20 years who wasn't perfectly entitled to be there.

Yes, there is crime in the US. Yes, there is tax evasion and welfare fraud. Yes, government money [i.e. your taxes] are sometimes spent on people who you believe don't deserve it,but it's pathetic to crusade against the illegal immigrants on that basis unless you are prepared to crusade against every single person, American-born, immigrant, or alien, who commits these crimes.

There are thousands of Americans posting on AF. A small handful are bigoted enough to whine constantly about this subject. You are vastly outnumbered by the silent majority. Please STFU and take your supremacist tendencies elsewhere.I'm sure that Dan Howard and his dickhead buddies who mistakenly call themselves patriots would love you to post your racist shit in their redneck circle jerk.
