Question '98 Tacoma, used, value?

Hello, I found a 1998 tacoma xtra cab trd 3.4l auto with 70,000 miles at a local dealership. Their listed price is $12,000. It's a toyota dealership and the truck is not certified and doesn't come with a warrenty. The carfax is perfect. Driven an average of 8,500 miles a year, 1 owner and for the past 20k miles it was serviced at one toyota dealership twice. It sounds good but the lack of warrenty or used certification scared me a little. I would just like for you to chime in on what your thoughts are and what is this thing worth. Thanks.

Re: '98 Tacoma, used, value?

You don't say if it's a 4 x 4, I looked a 2 x 4 up in NADA for my area, NC, it may vary in your area.

I can understand why the dealer will not certify it, after all it's nine years old an even with low miles it's may need some repairs. Can you find out if the timing belt has been changed? That information would help. According to NADA it's almost $2K too high for my area. If I liked the vehicle I would offer around $8500 for it and see what happens.

Re: '98 Tacoma, used, value?

It has 4wd and the locker. Unfortunately everyone I talked to about it told me not to get it due to the fuel mileage and I didn't care too much but the recent gas price raise made me realize that I shouldn't be buying a truck that gets 20mpg when I'm still in college. My friend had one of these and I would have liked to have one. Oh well, back to buying a more fuel efficient car. lol Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

Re: '98 Tacoma, used, value?

The reason it is not certified is because it was more than 7 years old. Through the Toyota used car certification program, one of the qualifications is that the car cannot be more than 7 years old. After all its a 7 year 100,000 warrenty that starts at the time the vehicle was placed in service (the date the vehicle was originally sold)
Hope this helps
