transmission problems???

While driving at cruising speed, if I let off the gas or add pressure to the gas pedal just a hair, the rpm's go up 500 to 1000 rpm's for a quick second. It does this in and out of O.D. Can anyone help me?

The rpm's go up even when you let off? If it did it when you added gas just a little, then I'd say it's probably the tv cable that's out of adjustment.

Could possibly be the throttle position sensor, I know this will cause strange shifting while driving. No lights on the dash yet?

when it warms up i have know overdrive? check the temp of fluid its only runing about 190 dont know what to do please help if you can thanks kartglen this is a 1997 dodge ram 4x4 sport.

Try putting in a thermoststat in it,the transmission will shift to a certain coolant tempature.Here is a tip,drill a small pin hole in the thermostat,air gets bled out much easier.I know about this,had one in with the same problem and shifted fine after replacing the thermostat.Has the bottom transmission line checked?,going towards the radatoir and it is the rubber hose part.There is a nylon checkball in there and get rid of that checkball.The problem with that nylon checkball is that it melts and will plug up the line right up resulting in a burned up transmission.Take a long #2 phillips screwdriver to pop it out or drill it out.The first thing to check for transmission problem is the fluid.If it is still red,it is good.You can use dextron III and get a black bottle of LubeGard,it turns the dextron into the recomended mopar fluid that is too much money.Most parts store sell LubeGard and Chrysler does approve Lube gard.

01 dodge ram quad cab shift problems, when put in drive it takes of in second, everything else works fine Iwas told you could retrain the trans computer how do you do that?I had all the sensors changed the light still stayed on can someone help me out?

00 ram 360 quad cab starts in second unless if you put it in first. It will shift into second and thats it. I changed the fluid and filter and it made no difference at all. Any ideas

I Just had to replace a transmission in my 98, blowed a seal and completely destroyed the trany this was from excess heat, I put a rebuild in it and they would not warranty the transmission unless I installed a Large Cooler in front of the radiator and disconnected the lines from the radiator run them to the new aftermarket cooler, Apparently you need to run the trany a lot cooler then from factory. All the new dodges have this cooler now, If you have not already did this I would suggest you do. and get rid of any filters or check valves that are in the line plus you will have to blow out the lines because they get pluged with metal shavings.

I have a 2000 Sport quad with the 5.2 and 46RE tranny with the same problem. I've been to MULTIPLE quality shops for diagnosis with each telling me a different answer.
Basically, it's the torque converter. They use a Lock-up converter in these. I've spoken to other local owners with the same problems who have gotten it repaired after much chasing. The torque converter slips, the computer doesn't read the slip because it falls between the lock-up and lock-out rpm. It thinks it's functioning properly. To repair it, you MUST use a FACTORY Dodge lock-up converter. Aftermarket or shop rebuilds don't work. The problem will persist. Also a cheap and simple item that should be done is there is a plate in the trans in the valve body that you can either drill out to a specified diameter or buy the replacement plate from the dealer. What this doesis increase the fluid pressure to the front pump and aids the converter. the part is about $2.00; with labor, a shop will charge about $250.00 total. Good luck and watch out for your steering box leaking at the pitman arm. You will need a complete rebuilt box.

try replacing the throttle positioning sensor (tps) mine done the same...cheap part..under $50
