Help I mess up my power locks !!!
Hi all, here is my problem. I recently decided to install an alarm system in my car. Everything went well until I have to connect the power locks. I connected the open wire to one wire and the unlock wire to the other one. When I tested it close the locks fine, but when I tried to open the locks it did work and the alarm power lock fuse blew. After studying the diagrams I learned that the power locks on this car reverse polarity in each wire. That explained why the fuse blew. I gave up on trying to figure it out so disconected the wires for the locks and put evrything back like it was before. I disable the alarm so everything works the way it was before.
Now my power locks close but I can't open them using the doors switches (any of them). I can hear the relay working when I hit the switch to the open position but they don't open. If I use the keyless entry from the vehicle itself I can open the driver's side door only. I checked the IP fuses and the engine compartment fuses and they are ok. The car is a GM 94 4.6L v8. Please help me out! any ideas on what is broke. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Help I mess up my power locks !!!
Well just wanted to report that the problem is resolved. Took the car to a friend mechanic and after various hours of testing it point out that it could be the keyless entry module. Went to a junkyard and found only one module from around 10 cars lol. It appears that the module that has 3 plugs and is on the passenger door side behind the the glovebox only came out for models in 1993 and 1994 only.
Also if your trying to install your car alarm yourself there is a good website that will sell you detail instructions on how install it with diagrams and relay configurations for only 5 bucks, www.alarmtek.com . Something you may want to try before burning a module like I just did. |

Re: Help I mess up my power locks !!!
gm94,
Did you ever reconnect the alarm? I just went through installing an alarm on my 93 MGM and got the info from Alarmtek after reading your post. They told me that the car had reverse polarity so I followed their directions. Did not work. I checked the door lock switch and it is 3 wire negative system, not reverse polarity. All I had to do was splice the lock negative output from alarm to the pink/yellow wire and unlock negative output to the pink/light green wire. |

Not that $5 is alot, but its silly to see them sell info that is online for free.
www.the12volt.com offers free wiring diagrams for car alarms/starters and car radios. They also have a free chat forum. Quote:
