Question M Badged

Hi, I've recently purchased a 1987 325is in San Diego. I noticed an M badge on the trunk lid and asked the owner about it. He didn't know but then I think he had the car for basic transportation. Research has not brought up any 6 cylinder M cars of that vintage so I was wondering if someone had rebadged it at some time? It looks just like a factory application and the car includes an air dam, spoiler and basket weave BBS'. Above 3,000 revs it runs like a raped ape but no turbo as far as I can see. I guess someone either badged it for ego or I've got a pretty rare car. I can't get into the glove compartment for more information. I'm flying back to San Diego soon to pick up the Bimmer and drive it back to its new home in NW Montana.

So many roads so little time.

Re: M Badged

G'day, it sounds like you have a nice car, but its probably not a legit M-badged car as you suspect. The badges on the trunk are pretty common unfortunately as are the little ones that go in the front grill. The best way to know for sure is to get the chassis number of the car and reference it on http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi or another enthusiast site.

good luck - enjoy the drive home
