Power Shifting?

What the hell is Power Shifting. I was reading a GM hightech magazine and they were talking about it? One guy said his maro ran a 13.20 and on his next run he ran a 12.90 just by power shifting?

Re: Power Shifting?

My dad use to do that all the time, He would be able to shift without using the clutch. What benefits does it have?

Re: Power Shifting?

The idea is to stay within the engine's optimal powerband and elimate the lag time in which the engine winds down a bit below the powerband, hence 'power' shifting.

: Since you just baked one trans, I highly not recommend trying this in your car. beat up on somebodies grocery getter to learn.

Re: Power Shifting?

I thought powershifting was keeping your foot on the gas while upshifting (using the clutch) to keep the engine powered and prevent it from having any lag after the clutch is let off. That is keeping the gas on to get the engine reving back up immediatly after the clutch re-engages.

Did that make sense? If not I'l have to be a idiot noob and bring up double clutching. I know what it is, I'll just add to the confusion if you don't awnser my question.

You are correct sir!! Yes, that made sense. I forget what it's called when you don't use the clutch, I know it's harder than hell on the car and I tried it ONCE!!! I DID NOT LIKE IT!!! It's not worth the damage that gets done. Just get good with the clutch and use it, that's what it is there for.
