oil pressure-normal?

my oil pressure tops out at 40. on the highway, on the street, it never goes above 40. after the truck warms up, it will go down to 20 at a stop light, but at any other speed, it never passes 40. is this normal? when i first start it in the morning cold, it sits at just below 60. there are no leaks that i can see, other than the usual line at the front, which only "sweats." nothing on the driveway. am i worried over nothing?

Re: oil pressure-normal?

Really? I only ask because I thought it should be a little higher when on the expressway at the higher speeds. (maybe up to 60ish, like other posts I've read?) It's pretty doggish too when trying to pass. This truck only has 95K.

Re: oil pressure-normal?

My 2000 (now with over 120,000 miles) is EXACTLY the same as yours and has been since it was brand new. I've read others on the board with the exact same numbers as well.

Re: oil pressure-normal?

Okey dokey......just trying to keep ahead of any future problems with this beast. I've already matched my purchase price with the needed repairs and fixes. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated!

Re: oil pressure-normal?

Don't worry -- you'll have some other Blazer problems to worry about soon -- lol. At least the oil pressure shouldn't be one of them.

A electric gauge is only a indicator gauge.
To get the true pressure you will need to use a manual test gauge.
The more rpm not mph is what raises the oil pressure.

Your minimum oil pressure specs with good hot engine is.
6 lbs at 1000 rpm
18 lbs at 2000 rpm
24 lbs at 4000 rpm.

When hot 20 lbs idle and 40 lbs running is good pressure.

Cold engine speeded up it is normal for oil pressure to go to 65 lbs or more.
And then drop back around 40-45 when hot.
