I have a stock '97 C1500 5.7L w/90k mi and need to replace the distributor gear. Should I use the AC Delco gear or the BW iron gear that's available. They're the same price.

Re: Which Replacement Distributor Gear?
I would stick with the AC Delco.
But is not both steel gears? Watch removal and installation. 180 degree off will throw the camshaft retard setting off. Always check camshaft retard setting after engine is running. MT

Re: Which Replacement Distributor Gear?
Thanks MT. The original gear looked like steel, but Oreilly ordered me the iron gear by mistake. I was deciding if I wanted to use it or wait til probably next week before they could get me the AC Delco gear. I found a Chevy dealer that'll have me the factory part in the morning so I'm good now. By both do you mean the cam and distributor gear? The one that came in to oreilly was iron for sure. Roger that on setting the timing.

Re: Which Replacement Distributor Gear?
On the both part I was wondering if BW or AC delco were the same?
Or one steel and the other cast iron? Good Luck. MT

Re: Which Replacement Distributor Gear?
The original part looks like steel to me. The BWD part is iron. I'd rather replace the distributor gear than the cam any day!

Re: Which Replacement Distributor Gear?
I haven't seen the AC Delco replacement part. I thought it'd be steel, but it could be iron. I'll post what the dealer part turns out to be.
