They are 6x8, with a max depth of 3 inches. Not sure of your budget but the Pioneer TS-A6871R are known for working very good in the front doors. You can buy a 6x8 to 6 inch adapter but by the time you add it to the cost of the speakers you'd be paying more than just getting a good pair of 6x8 speakers.

There is a website that sells factory add-on units at discounted prices, and even factory replacement remotes and programable keys, but I don't have the URL handy. I'll look and see if I can find it again.

No the factory speakers are 6x8. If you see 6 1/2" speakers in there then someone else has already replaced them with aftermarket speakers. Should just slightly less than 3" depth, but 3" can be 'persuaded' to fit. They will be the same speakers in the rear UNLESS you have the system with the built in sub. Depth is not really an issue in the rear. The 'Mach' system is basically 4 sub/mid with two tweeters up front.

Re: speaker size and keyless entry

My recall is that the stock front door speakers in my 1993 SHO with the JBL system were 6 1/2 inch (round) speakers, so I suspect the same in 1992. Back in 1992, Mach was not an option. The "premium" system was the JBL system.

I suspect you are thinking of your 2004 Taurus rather than of a 1992 Taurus such as what jjh1976 is referring to.

Wow, thanks for picking up on that Shorod. I was indeed thinking that they had a gen 4 taurus A 1992 Taurus would have 6-1/2" front speakers and the rear deck speakers would be 6x8". They had four different spund systems for that car; 2 were JBL variations, a generic AM/FM, and a AM/FM with Cassette.

Re: speaker size and keyless entry

Ford doesn't list a programming procedure for the 92, only starting in 93 for the Taurus.

Re: speaker size and keyless entry

I completely ignored the keyless question, sorry.

On my 1993, the keyless entry module was located under the package tray in the trunk, on the right (passenger in US) side. I'm not sure if it is in the same location in your 1992, but worth a look.

Re: speaker size and keyless entry

thanks mytaurus8achevy and thanks rod. i bought a set of six and a halfs and they fit perfect in the doors. then i replaced the rear deck speakers with the 6x8. ithink im going to try to shoehorn a set of 6x9 in the rear.
i had a bunch of people telling me the front door speakers were 6x8 but all i new that they were round. and they didnt quite measure 6.5 in.

the 6.5 i bought were roadmasters with a 20 oz magnet and there 3 ways.
there two 4ohm speakers wired in paralell coming back to the amp at 2 ohms and they rock for 20.00 dollar speakers.
im gonna buy some infinity 6x9 and wire them the same way.
again thanks fellas i finally got it figured out.

Re: speaker size and keyless entry

Are you using the stock amplifier? If so, I wouldn't suggest leaving a pair of speakers wired in parallel and powering them off the factory amp. It is not intended for a 2-ohm load and you may overwork it and blow it. You'd be better off wiring the speakers in series for an 8-ohm load. The factory speakers are either a 4-ohm or 6-ohm voice coil if I recall correctly.

Re: speaker size and keyless entry

Okay, then if your amplifier is listed as "2-ohm stable" you should be okay.

Re: speaker size and keyless entry

I have a 1999 Taurus and I was just wondering if the rear speakers would also be a 6"x8". Since I tried putting a 6"x9" and they did not fit , only in the middle hole that there is between the two speaker. So I wanted to know the right size so that I can finally upgrade my sound system. Thanks

yes there known as 5x7or 6x8. they are both the same speaker.
roadmaster makes a good 6x8 with a 20 ounce magnet.
