Rear main seal

My 94 Cherokee 4x4 has a leaking rear main seal. I'm trying to sell it. Does anyone know a ballpark figure for what that repair would cost? I'm new to town and don't have a mechanic yet. Thank you!

Re: Rear main seal

There are few posts on here regarding changing the rear main seal... If you have some mechanical ability its not to tough of a job... drop the oil pan, rear move the bearing cap and push the top half of the seal out and reinstall, install seal half in bearing cap and replace the oil pan... Its mostly labor costs that will kill you... plan on like 4 hours atleast of labor... good luck

Local Jeep dealer here (small country town) $350, Jeep dealer in next big town $750, local mechanic $600 (but he was going to remove the engine & tranny.
