Sunfire '97 Estimate Diagnostic Costs

Before I get into the intended topic, let me fill you guys in a little bit.

My name is Megan, I'm 17yrs old, and I obviously own a Pontiac Sunfire GT. (1997) It was bought, and then figured out that the tranny was completely shot. Spend $4,000 on a new one, because apparently the one I needed was only made for 2yrs. Put the tranny in, started driving it around the 2nd week of February. I learned on an automatic, so this car was my first stick. I do pretty well shifting through, can probably be improved, but hey. Something happened when I was on the beltway coming home that I'm not quite clear on why it happened. Car stalled, tried twice to start it back up. After the 2nd time, it started 'spitting' is the best way to describe the sound. Called my father, he came out, drove it home. Drove fine apparently. He thinks there is something wrong with the fuel line, or something. The 'Check Engine' light is on.

Does anyone know an approximate cost to get a diagnostic run? I live in Maryland, in Harford County if it makes it any difference.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Megan

Re: Sunfire '97 Estimate Diagnostic Costs

Welcome to AF Megan ,
To bad you had not posted here earlier be fore blowing 4 Grand on trany. Could have got it rebuilt Alot cheaper unless casing was broke, a lot of people would here would have pointed that out ,or at least you could have got a used one from a boneyard .....oh well. You should never have to do it again .............LOL. Have your Dad go with you and take it to Autozone and get it scanned for free. Taking Dad with you will help insure that they won`t try to B.S you with him standing there. Get your codes read and post back here someone will help you out . BTW has the car had a tune-up that you know of ? Spark plugs, plug wires , fuel and air filters .....
