Seat belt light...

My fasten seat belt light has stopped working, ive tried three other bulbs that i know were good at i still couldnt get it to come on. i noticed right before it stopped working though that it would be really dim when it would be on for a few seconds. just wondering what else i should check. is there a sensor in the seat or something that makes it light also?? i know its just the seatbelt light and its not a big deal but i want to really maintain the stock look of the car by having everything good. any help would be great.

Re: Seat belt light...

As I recall, the '83 used a cam switch in the seat belt winder instead of a switch in the seat belt receiver. It was right about that time that models were changing over. Either way, the circuit is routed through a switch for the seat belts, and the end of the seat belt with the wires will be the one to investigate.

If you're talking about the retractors for the front seats, that are mounted in the B-pillars, you first need a Torx socket to remove the bolt that holds the top belt anchor in place. Then, the pillar cover itself is a two-piece affair- the bottom piece must come off first and then the top piece comes off. You will need to work the plastic over the metal, but it's fairly easy. The retractor, if memory serves, is held on with another of those Torx head bolts, as is the belts themselves.

Re: Seat belt light...

I thought on these old cars that the light was on a timer or something and only came on for a couple of seconds when the key is first turned reguardless if the seatbelt is clicked/extended out or not. its really run through a switch though isn't it?
