2002 Steering Noise

I have a 2002 Grand Am with an automatic transmission and 4 cyl. It has ~60k miles. I had the oil changed last Saturday. (I'm also embarrassed to say that they conned me into a transmission fluid flush.) The "Service Engine Soon" light has been coming on and off for about three weeks. The guy at the oil change place offered to check and reset the code, and it was a P0130 - an oxygen sensor problem. I doubt that has anything to do with my problem, but I figured I ought to mention it.

My problem is that pretty immediately after I had the oil changed, I noticed a very quiet whine or squeal when I turn the steering wheel. I can only hear it when I'm driving slowly or stopped. What might this be? Is there any chance the people at the oil change place caused it?

Re: 2002 Steering Noise

Welcome to the forums,

On to your issues at hand. More then likely the SES light is caused by the oxygen sensor if you have not replaced it if that is the code that they had found. More then likely it's just a conincedence that it happened right after you left. Sometime these place do do shady things though. Moving on to the noise from the wheels. The noise could be a few different things, from brakes, to wheel bearings, to your trans to even your power steering. would first check your power steering fluid make sure it's correct and not low. Next are you noticing anything different on the car on how it's driving? hope this helps some
