1997 5.7 fuel problem need help

I hope someone can give me some direction, As in my earlier thread I replaced the intake gasket on my truck. While doing this I noticed the water ports on the intake were pitted up. I bought another intake complete with the fuel lines still connected, supposidly off a running motor. The truck ran fine, it just leaked water before I pulled my intake. All of the swap out is complete now, distributor is back in exactly as it was removed, I've done a dozen or so of these, but now it won't crank. It is firing and will crank if gas is poured into the throttle body. I know I need to check the fuel pressure, I know the pump is running, any other ideas on why it would run with the old intake and not with the new one? And what to do to fix it. Thanks for good suggestions.

Did you mean to write that it will crank but won't fire, but will fire if fuel is administered through the TB?

I'm guessing that this is a CPFI system, correct? If so, then yes, you need to verify that there is at least 61 PSIG fuel pressure before startup. The injector poppets on a CPFI will not open reliably below 58, and really need 61 to start an engine.

If there is adequate fuel pressure, the next step would be to verify injector pulses at the pod.

Were there still TBI 350s in 1997?

Sorry for the confusion, the engine will spin over and it is getting spark to the plugs by crank I mean it will not run. It will run momentarily when fuel is poured into the air inlet (I called it the throttle body, don't know the appropriate name, it also has 8 injectors located under the upper manifold plenum). It was running fine when I pulled the original intake, do you think something is differant about these other injectors? I'll check the fuel pressure ASAP. Any information anywhere on how to verify injector pulses, and what is the pod? Is it the electrical connector to the intake? Thanks

More information, I checked the fuel pressure to be 62 psi. I've been reading in a new chiltons manual and I now suspect a bad camshaft position sensor, or either the fuse that supplies power to it is bad. I'll check it out tommorrow and report findings. If anybody has any other suggestion I'm listening, thanks
