My 97 silverado suddenly stalled in town. I drove to town everything was fine, went in to a store came out started the truck and drove maybe 20ft then the truck just died and wont start not even tryin to hit. Fuel pump is running, as it was replaced about 2000 miles ago. I also put a brand new rotor/cap wires plugs on it 2000 miles ago. So as of now its sitting in town, but I will tow it to my shop tomoro. Where do I start, I am almost positive its ignition just because fuel system was just worked on. There was no hesitation or anything it was just dead. Its gotta be some ignition component. pickup coil/coil/crank sensor/ign module/ign switch. Could some one please post a ignition schematic for all the wiring and voltages and such. I am pretty good with electronics so hopefully its a easy fix.

First thing that came to mind was the "ignition module?". The little electronic piece that sits under your rotor. They usually get corrosion and fail. Hope this helps.

ok update......

Truck was towed to the shop. Got there and the mechanic got to looking at it later and it started right up. He drove it around all day and it was fine. I drove it for 2 days and then went out to go to work one morning and once again nothing. Wont hit, no spark. 2 days later jumped in to see if it would start and runs good. Now its just been sitting cause I cant trust it and I have a back up vechile. The only thing I can figure out is moiustire is affecting it becuase when it doesnt work happens to be when its snowing here in MN. Today went out and started it and its revving abnormally high. When it started is went to about 2000 rpms and eventually settles down to 1000-rpms. When it was running right it idled at about 700 rpms or little less.

To me this sounds like a bad Crank Shaft Sensor. What do you guys think?

Have the ignition module checked they can fail due to temp.

It might be your ignition control module. I had the same problem in my 94 sierra. Thats more than likely your problem as well.
