GTP vs. Mazdaspeed 6/w mods

Go ahead and get your bullshit flags out......

I was at the car wash about an hour ago washing my work van. The car wash was empty except for 2 cars that were waiting on each other at the same bay for some reason. In any case I noticed the car being washed was a new G6 not the GTP version though. The other car waiting to be washed was a new Mazdaspeed 6. It was white and I must say very pimp. The car was just plain nice....

As I was leaving I went to the guy with the MS6 and asked him how his car ran. He said it was real nice and fast. I asked him if he raced it . he replyed with a yes but said his friend was the one who races it. The one that had the G6. Again wierd to me but whatever...I asked the guy if he would race me and his friend asked what I had I told him a GTP and he said for 50 bucks they would. I dont race for money but I figured I would go get the car anyway. The guys were kinda punks and I new my $50 was safe.

I was back within 10 minutes. We talked for a few more and I knew I was in trouble because I looked at the specs online before I went back and wouldnt you know he had CAI and exhaust.(side note) the exhaust was only one pipe on the passenger side and it looked like shit because the other side still had the hole for the exhaust with the crome lip. Just looked bad. I asked the guy to let me hear it and behold the sound of that turbo spooling was sweet. Like a jet getting ready to launch.

Off to the races. We went 3 times. First race we lined up at 30mph on a back road. I let him honk down the three. I was in second gear at about 2700rpm. On the third honk it was on. I pulled 1 1/2 cars on him and held it up to about 70 when I shut down...

Second race. We went from a 20mph roll. I honked this time and again I was in second. This time I put 2 cars on him and he was making up ground quick by 90 when I shut down. We end up at a light where the guy proceeds to give me the bird( in fun) and call bullshit on my car being stock. I told him I would pop the hood and he could crawl unsder it if he needed verification. He told me he think I underestimate my car. which I kind of do now.

Third time we went from a dig... This is where the bullshit kicks in. I held at 17-1800 rpm's and I yelled at him to honk which he didnt but I hear him spooling up and I went ahead and honked. He pulled me by no more than 3/4 length and when I hit second my car pulled that 3/4 back and put a half on him till about 70 where he was pulling on me. Would have took it faster but conditions were not as good as I would have liked...

I realizer this guy obviously couldnt drive for shit but this is the first real heads up race in my GTP and I was very impressed with it. I have become very good at launching it and I bet I can drop my time at the trackkkk....

It was real fun though...and I bet this guy has a new respect for a GTP...Oh and both guys were in the car. 150 lb and 200lb I would guess. and me at a slim 225lb...

with two people in the car that sounds about right.....he should be around 14.5 and with that added weight it will probably net him around 14.9ish....good kill but whats up with the short races.....30mph to 70mph is weak sauce......

Ehh, good kill. I don't call BS on your kill at all. The main reason is that turbocharged cars do have lag from a roll. Car And Driver mentioned how the Evo didn't do as well as a 350Z despite having similar horsepower from a roll. Of course it depends on the piping and the turbo size, but I dunno what they have on those Mazdaspeed6's anyways.

I feel you on that I know its pretty weak. the second race was from 20-90 though. I tell you what, I have no problems taking it to the higher speeds, but with all these potholes unfixed yet and it was dark kind of keeps me slowed down a bit......

i believe it, those MS6 is like a low 14 second car stock, and if the kid couldnt drive, i believe a V6 Supercharged beating a turbocharged 4 cylinder. The torque is in your favor.

Ive always wanted to race one of those, i dont see many in michigan. Good kill

yeah if you find a better road take it up alittle further.....the speeds you guys raced at could be done in a single gear....

yeah it does depend on the size of the turbo cause racing from a roll in the srt is my best bet.....I mean I could launch ok but from a roll I dont have to worry about wheel spin as much.....

Racing conditions have been bad round here too. Not pothols though, there not to bad, wet roads. How fast will any of you guys go on wet roads? I guess I'm not to sure about traction on wet roads at higher speeds, but I do know its reduced, but by how much? If it weren't for these wet roads I woulda raced another truck saturday nite.

the GTP is def a underrated sleeper... i dunno how many people have been more than a little suprised when i've beaten them... they just dont expect it from a gand prix.

The MS6 uses a warner Ko4 turbo (Which is the direct bolt on upgraded turbo for my jetta.) Which is a small quick spooling turbo that generally produces more torque at a lower RPM range, and after mods shows to produce more torque over Horsepower. I wouldnt say you have too much weight advantage because both of your cars are fairly heavy. I would have to say the guy you raced had the car in 3rd gear when you started because had he had it in 2nd he wouldnt have had a problem beating you. Also another note is that redlinening the MS6 in 2nd gear ends around 65mpg so if you took it to 70 he had to shift which made him slow down a bit more, and again at reline in 3rd they have to shift at 85 so at ninety he wouldve slowed down again for a breif milisecond.

Another interesting note for you guys if you can remember my test drive of the MS6 how I mentioned the turbo feels like it shuts off at 5k rpms? Well I did research and found out that at 5k RPMs the ECU has a protection system that closes the throttle body and reduces boost to 6 psi from the original 14.6 and that is alot of power lost especially since the actual fuel cut is at 5.5k. So yeah i definately believe you beat him. You'd also win if it were from a dig, unless he launches at 5k and can shift really good, then you'd be screwed. Cause from a roll i beat them in the jetta and RX-8 but from a dig they kick the crap out of me with that AWD lauching when they launch at 5K rpms.

Hey, sorry bout that. I really did not believe that I could take him and I still respect them. I wont go getting cocky. It did feel good to see that look of surprise though...

Gotian, I really do believe that with the right driver I would have gotten beat for sure, but I didnt this time. The good thing about it is the guy gave me his card and I was thinking about paying him a visit to the car dealership that he works for a rematch because it sho was fun...

The guy that owned the G6 and drove the MS6 was pretty cocky to say the least b4 we raced. While we were sitting at the car wash and I was telling them I thought I would get beat by the MS6 but I would run anyway. The guy said I should just run the G6 and I laughed and said I would put lengths on him. I said I would def. put $50 on that run. You could just tell he was all butt-hurt about me calling his car slow.

Good times.....
