now...can anyone help me?

right then, on the back of everyones headunit, there are contacts that join the "control panel" to the "cd drive".
this has 14 pins iirc on my alpine unit so i was thinking:

if this is what is transfering the messages back and forth, is there a way of connecting them with wires?
this would therefore mean that the "control panel" doesnt have to be attached directly, no?

if i can get the connections from another source, i can then make a male/female ribbon cable. this would mean i can have the unit anywhere and have the "control panel" directly under my screen!

please please...someone tell me if im stupid for thinking of this...but still tell us if you know where i can get some from, gunna try the Alpine rep next time he comes in as he knows his stuff and hes bringing me some stickers about the size i want.(saves money in signwrighting! )

any help really, REALLY appreciated!

Re: now...can anyone help me?

You can but it is the biggest pain in the ass. We had to use 2 units to get it to work properly. I had to sacrifice the entire front side of one unit cause those little pins dont put off enough power to run wires so you have run them from the board to the back of the leads for the pins.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

What you are saying is "possible" .... but pimp may be right, it may not have enough power for a cable of say 1 foot or more. Problem 2 is that you still have to be able to insert the CD somehow, so the body still has to be accessible.
