Re: new mitsubishi owner

A VR4 is a car that you have to be willing to make sacrifices to own. It's very different than your civic, in good ways and bad.

on the downside, if your into the whole "tuner" thing, parts are no where near as cheap or numerous as for a civic, but they are out there. Whithin the last few years the aftermarket has really boomed for the 3/S (3000GT/Stealth). Whether your looking to make 350AWHP or 850AWHP, the parts are readily available...for a price...

On the upside, your starting out with a true performance car. You can put a few bucks into engine mods and not worry that the suspension is complete crap, or that the brakes are going to shit the bed. No disrespect to the Honda Civic, but it is, and was designed to be, a grocery-getter. To turn it into a "sports car" requires modification of almost every mechanical part on the vehicle.

but the best argument i can make for the 3/S is probably its uniqueness. Ive said it before and i stick by it, there is absolutely nothing you can do to a Honda Civic that will impress me. Its been tuned and modified to death. ive seen a civic with a complete nissan skyline r34 rear end and civics that can run 8 second 1/4 miles...but a stock 1999 3000GT VR-4 will still draw more eyes, on the street or at the strip.

It comes down to a personal preferance. I recommend reading the FAQs completely to get more of a "feel" for the platform. Youll find its not the most popular vehicle, but it has a very devoted following.

oh, welcome to AF

Re: new mitsubishi owner

if awd is wat ur looking for, i'm not trying to push u away from the stelth tt or vr4, u should checkout other awd cars to, evo's, wrx's, or hell if u want put a swap from the crv awd system onto ur honda. if u have 300hp outta the honda, the awd conversion wouldnt b that much of a waste, then u can put a bit more power into the car and not worry that much about traction.
but as for modding, the vr4/rt tt, are good cars stock, to mod them it will probably take more money than the civic. but u are like stated above starting with a genuine sports car not a "eco car".
have fun with watever u choose tho

please refrain from giving advice, about which you have NO CLUE, to forum newcomers.

to clarify, the AWD on our car has its limitations, but compared to the systems on the Evo and WRX, its much better. the new Evo's are trashing the entire transfer case. the transfer cases on the 3S are stout, but tend to break only when launched hard/abused on years 91-93. years 94+ the problems were fixed. the Evo transfer case is much more fragile.

as for the WRX's, their transmissions are crap after about 30k miles. i've heard of new owners going through multiple transmissions on just the stock motor. they don't hold up well under increased horsepower. as for the 3S transmission, it can take whatever power you dish out. now the synchros tend to fail after 100k miles or so, but that's the only major problem, and the synchro assembly for any transmission is wear part that requires maintenance, just like brake pads.

and as for an AWD conversion...wow. that is something that would require more custom work, fabrication, and welding than is worth, not to mention money. yes, its been done before, even on a 3S, but unless you are very skilled in metal work fabrication and welding, then it will cost you big bucks. and for the time/money required, its easier and more feasible to just buy an AWD vehicle. don't believe me? check out this site: www.bobthegreat.com.

Re: new mitsubishi owner

It would be fairly ridiculous to do an AWD conversion on a civic, ore really any car. Remember, Mods are a waste of money!.. as in, you almost never get any money back from them, so in that case, you could waste more money modding a diff car, or get a vr4 (which seems to meet your wants in a vehicle) and the vr4 will retain the value you paid for it adn it has awd already.

Re: new mitsubishi owner

i love my vr4 and recommend them to anyone who knows that they might end up paying for the car again in mods/maintenance :P. i think it's a great car because its got all the performance, looks and comfort of a true gt, will smoke alot of bpu imports out there even on stock power and can do it in a fairly reliable manner. in my own experience, i've found it to be a very satisfying car to own.

Re: new mitsubishi owner

nope that's y the sti has the best awd system out there, cause it sux.
as for putting an awd system on ne car, wouldnt that b cheaper than taking a sl or r/t and putting the turbo's on it and doing all the other little things, i would say it is, awd on a civic isnt unheard of, niether is rwd

Re: new mitsubishi owner

in fact where i live drive type conversions arent unheard of or rare, there's a 409hp civic with a rwd conversion being sold by me. there's also a 97 toyota supra with an awd conversion on it, 31,500 if u want it. and a mercedez sl500 with a toyota 4x4 systrem on it, looks stupid but o well.
hell theres a group of kids with rwd focuses in a town near me
i always thought that the tiburon woulda been a better car had it been rwd

Re: new mitsubishi owner

korea eh? (cough)F#%$ing dog-eaters(cough cough)

lol. I'm reminded of the Top Gear episode where they completely destroy a brand new Hyundai Accent or some POS like that just becasue korean people eat dogs...as a dog lover myself, i laughed my ass off and im completely discusted everytime i see a korean car...though that might not have anything to do with the dog thing...

Re: new mitsubishi owner

well them eating dogs to us, is like us eating cows to indians.
i dnt like the fact that they eat dogs, cats, and horses, but it's not the only country, most of asia does.
the only time i did was at a survival skool, and that was actually a horse, didnt taste all that bad, and no i didnt fall into tasting like chicken.
as for korean cars in america, i dnt mind it, helps their economy, and ours, cause face it, foreign car companies have more plants in america than domestics

Re: new mitsubishi owner

A survival situation is a completely different matter. Those bastards arent starving, they have other sources of food.
yea, i know theres a cultural difference, but frankly i dont give a shit, lol. Maybe im just not "multicultural" enough, but i dont fucking care, theres not even that much freaking meat on a dog anyways. You can compare it to all the other animals you want, but its just not the same. Dogs (and cats) are pets, they were domesticated to be pets, unlike others animals, which were domesticated to be food. There just is no way your ever going to get the affection from a cow or horse that a dog can give you. I mean, dogs are mans best friend, and it seems like stabbling your best friend in the back to eat them. I know they got chickes there, eat them instead. Or horses, go for it, eat them all, i dont care. Make me some glue while your at it lol.

and yea i know some people keep pigs as pets and theyre affectionate and all, but bacon kicks ass.

sorry to chitchat in this thread...ill take it to the OT next time....

EDIT: dude, im not arguing with you just to be a dick or anything...its just something i feel very strongly about.

Re: new mitsubishi owner

I'm Korean and I've never ate a dog before.

Back on track though, best of luck to you in looking for a VR4. I suggest you research on the different years, whether you want Active Aero or not, whether you want a 5spd or a 6spd, etc.

Welcome to the forums
