Shifter for 87 Monte SS

I recently installed a 400sbc/350tranny into my 87 Monte SS. The motor is rebuilt with slight upgrades from stock (cam,pistons..etc.) The tranny is also rebuilt with shift kit. I have 3:73 gears in the rear end. This vehicle is basically going to be a street performer and won't see any strip action. The detent (kickdown) cable was left off so I have to manually down shift the car. How much of a difference would I experience (performance wise) if I installed a hurst shifter versus using the stock shifter? As I said before, I dont plan on using it on the strip. As I fine tune the car and set-up I will most likely add a few more goodies that will push the car to around 350-450 HP. Any suggestions would be great. I'm pretty new to this and Ive heard all kinds of different stories about the shifters. If a Hurst Shifter is the way to go, what style would fit my needs? Thanks in advance.
