Brake On Off Switch

So I have been looking at some posts that indicate that one should check their BOO switch because there is a possible fire hazzard.

I think some have said it is available at Ford. Can anyone remember the cost?
Besides the Cruise not working are there any other signs?
Is this switch only for the cruise control release?
Is it a normally open switch that closes upon brake pressure or is it the other way around?

Thanks

Re: Brake On Off Switch

The switch should be under $20.
You can look and see if it looks damp......if so replace.
I posted pictures of the process, and it is super easy.
I bought a bottle of brake fluid just in case, but did not need it.
My Alldatadiy description says that the PCM uses the switch input for torque converer lockup, but I don't know if that is true........as I did not notice any drivability change with the switch working or not working.

Wiswind,
I saw one of your photos but I guess I didn't look enough because I missed the procedures. I will check again.......................Thanks.

Okay I see now. Yes it does look easy. Does Fluid drip out of the brake resevoir when changing?

DRW1000,

A small amount will come out. About 1/2 oz. I just used a small plastic cup and held it under the switch as I unscrewed it.

Re: Brake On Off Switch

Just replaced mine a few weeks ago. 20.00 at the dealer very easy to replace. The spring inside gets weak. I popped mine apart to see if i could some how fix. But just easier to replace than to go around and try to find a spring that may not work any way..The parts guy said the part number had been chnged a few times so that ment to him that they had some issues with it.. hope this helps...
