1998 grand am power door lock question

My son just bought a used 1998 grand am that has power door locks but did not come with a remote. My question is; does the fact that the car has power door locks mean it originally came with a keyless remote? If so, what type would it be and how would you program it?

You would need to buy a key fob for the 98 models then program it for that car.
