Horn goes on by itself

Can anyone help.

I have a 2002 IMPALA LS.

Besides the other problem I have had (my A.I.R. PUMP) which I corrected thanks to this forum and with no help from GM; I now have a problem with my
horn.

About 3 mos. ago at 2am in the morning, a very cold one, my horn went off by itself while parked in the driveway. It was not the alarm as the lights were not flashing. Just a steady horn. I woke up and pulled the fuse and went back to bed. Later in the day I put the fuse back in and the horn was fine.

This past weekend, again at around 2am on a cold morning, it had been an icey week like the first time, the horn went off again. I pulled the fuse again then later on in the day I put the fuse back just find the horn was still going off.

Like the first time starting the car, using the key fob and even pressing the horn on the steering wheel had no effect. Just a steady horn with no lights.

I checked the relay with a power supply and (2) meters and it was functioning fine. I even switched the relay with the one for the fog lights, same part #, and the horn was still going off.

I checked the wiring down at the horn along with the horn itself and found no short to ground there. I have yet to remove the steering wheel and check in there. I do have a GM manual, 3 big books, to follow.

I know the horn activates when there is a "short to ground" thru the horn controls on the steering wheel or by the BCM for the alarm.

Anyone have any ideas or heard of this problem before. I am hoping it's not the BCM.

Thanks,
David.

Re: Horn goes on by itself

this is a new 1 but sounds like it's in your steering wheel like a weak spring or wire.
good luck.....

Re: Horn goes on by itself

UPDATE,

The fuse for the forn is now blowing on a almost daily basis.

Hopefully I will be able to trace out the wiring for the horn (I have the service manual, 3 big books) and find the short or shorts.
