2001 Cavalier spoiler-brakelight question

I just bought my daughter this car and noticed that the 3rd brakelight works but the LED brakelight on the spoiler does not.I would rather the spoiler light to work instead if not both.There are 2 wires (red and black) coming from inside the trunk lid going to a homemade looking splice to the 3rd brake light wires.These wires are not covered or held down like factory wires would be.There is also a factory loomed wire with a female connector with nothing connected to it in the middle of the trunklid.What could be the problem?Thanks for any help.

The red-black wire was frayed.Spliced and it works now.
