Re: 89 trooper new front boots

I looked at my manual, and it refers to the factory manual that indicates that the front axle is removed to do this work. Mine does say that it may be possible to do it while in the vehicle, but does not have a procedure.
I think it may depend on the geometry of the front spindle bracket and how to get the hub spindle out of the bracket once you remove the rotor, hub, etc; You may not be able to get the angle to allow the cv assembly to pull out the back of the spindle bracket....hence the need to remove the axle. I am only speculating though. I have done this on other brands, but never on a Trooper. If you wanted to remove the ball joint(s) along with hub, rotor, etc; and then pull the shaft out, I am thinking that may be a way to do it without dropping the axle, or at least look at it since it appears you would have to remove them either way. I would be interested to hear if it can be done another way! Good luck.

Hi, found this. Cant speak to how accurate or well it works, but it is quite thorough.
