Stalling while slowing down

Hi I am hoping someone has experience with this issue. I own a 96 SL2 with 105K on it. On two seperate occasions on trips of over 30 miles of freeway driving as I go to slow down and come to a stop on the off ramp the car stalls out and dies. I can immediatly restart the car and it will idle in park but if I put it into drive it will stall and die again right away. After I restart the car the check engine light will come on as well. After sitting and completely cooling off for an hour or so it will start and drive just fine. the car seems to run perfectly on short trips. The dealership hasnt been able to replicate the issue so if any of you have any ideas it would be much appreciated.

Re: Stalling while slowing down

Your car has a OBD II system so if you had a check engine light, it has a stored code. Get the code by going to Autozone and repost the code here. Don't post what they tell you what the code represents.

Stalling like you have written could be solved by cleaning your throttle body. Follow where the fresh air goes. Taking that air intake housing off and opening the throttle and plate covering will give you an idea why it may be stalling... crud... use carb cleaner and a tooth brush. You will see some sensors near the opening plate especially the TPS.. throttle position sensor. Cleaning that area well may rid you of this problem but get the code and post it...

Re: Stalling while slowing down

most likely cause, egr valve.
runner-up, torque converter.

if it has any egr codes, this is probably your problem.
torque conv. not very likely.
