Just got my 01 eclipse, gonna mod it.

Hello,
I have a 2001 eclipse GT V6, fed spec, ( Auto-Stick , wish I would of waited, a GT V6 just went up for sale, 5spd. ) I plan on moding my car but I have some questions and ideas I would like to run past everyone. Any feed back that I could get would be appreciated. First of all I plan to take my car in for a check up to see if I get a clean bill of health on it. Please keep in mind I do not have breaks or handling mods on here. If I do decide to get a turbo or notice I am running into problems with breaking safely I will defiantly be getting aftermarket breaks. Being able to control my car and not put others or myself at risk is very important to me.

1) Injen CAI or WAI.
- Going to get one since I don’t mind blowing 200.00 if I do go with a turbo.

2) Injen SES Cat-back exhaust system from:
http://www.sportcompactonly.com/Mits...93_vy-2001.htm

- I remember reading that if you have fed spec car like I do then you will need to make mods in order for it to fit. Is this something that the dealership can do or my local exhaust shop can do? or does anyone know of a CB exhaust system that will fit a fed spec 01 GT v6 with no mods and has at least 2.25" tubeing (I think that is the min " required for a car with FI )

3) New tran and motor mounts
- Are new tran and motor mounts worth it? Do they provide any hp or torque gain? And where can I find some tran mounts?

4) Long Tube Headers from RIPP Mods
- Now I don’t see anything on their site for a 01 eclipse but as long as it fits the 6g72 motor I will be fine, right? Or do I need to go for short tubes?

5) High Stall Torque Converter
- I would need one for the 3G v6? (I don’t understand the whole 2g, 3g titles that the eclipse has)

6) Stage 1 SDS system from RIPP Mods.
- By the time I get this put in I would have 75-80k miles, is the motor still in good enough condition or would I be wasting my money and making problems for myself?
- Stage 1 makes up to 6 psi of boost that is all I would like to run. I know the 6g72 motor pistons are crap and can “safely” take 8 psi per the sticky that I read so with only 6 psi I should be fine as long as I’m not pushing my motor and trans to the red line, right or am I dreaming?
- The SDS system comes with a “black box” with preset numbers in it so I would not have to go get the car tuned, right? Or am I going to go have a find a place with a dyno for tuning?
- Installing a turbo is way above my skill level so would the dealership that sold me the car be able to do this install?
-Gauges, what gauges would I need so I can monitor what is going on under the hood Psi gauge, temp gauge, volt gauge? Ect? I think I could find these and a mounting bracket/pillar but any ideas on where to find what I need in one location along with all wires and sensors.

7) Carbon Fiber Hood
- Weight reduction, is it worth it? Or would I waist my money.

General questions:
-Stock Tran can take how much WHP? I think I saw it in a post that it can run up to 300 whp. Is this true or no idea?

I told a friend about a race where I got smoked off the line because the other guy had one hell of a nice launch, had me by 1 car length off the line easy, and I had to push it hard to pull even and pass him but my friend asked me why didnt I launch my car. I said “Uh, duh, auto-stick here, I cant launch it. ” He said something like this.
“When you line up why don’t you just put your left foot on the break put the car in N and rev it up to where you want it with your right foot then when the light goes green take your left foot off the break and step on the gas with your right, drop the car into drive, push it into “manual” mode.”
So that has me thinking, is that possible? Because I told him it wasn’t. I don’t want to try it and make my motor or tran go poof. Wouldn’t that be like dropping the clutch in a 5spd? and that is a big mistake to do that

Sorry for the long post but I have lots of questions. Thank you for your time and for any feed back that you can give me.

Re: Just got my 01 eclipse, gonna mod it.

1) Get the Cold Air for now, unless your getting a turbo in a few months.

2)I'd go with this one.http://www.apexr1.com/tsn1stcasy.html The I4 and V6 exhausts will fit either of them, theres no diff on catbacks for our cars.

3)Go for all 4 Mounts not just the mount for the trans. They will alow you to do what your friend was talking about, with the brake on and the engine reved up then droping the thing into drive, I wouldnt recomend doing it that way though, Just hold the brake in and push the gas while in drive. Less strain on the trans.

4) As for headers, RIPP nolonger makes the long tube. youll get about 40WHP
with the short

5)This will give you better launches when you launch like i mentioned.

6)Mileage means nothing. If the car runs fine you good to go.
Gauges EGT,Boost,Oil temp. A/F. Get the car tuned on a dyno by a pro.

7)Got mine a few weeks ago and can feel the diferance when i race.

Stock trans can take 300-350HP

Re: Just got my 01 eclipse, gonna mod it.

there is a guy here where i live that has 386whp on a stock sporty trans. i wouldnt' recommend it, but it can be done.

1. PJAUTOMOTIVE.com

2. i like the injen, or get a modified 2g turbo Apexi N1 catback

3. tran a motor mounts DO NOT do anything for power output. they only prevent the engine from torquing and allow for better launches because of better consistency and less power transfer.

4. unless you plan on supercharging, headers are a waste, and especially if you do not have it tuned afterwards. headers are also considered illegal by emissions standards.

5. better power transfer, if you dont mind the change in driveablility it is a worthwhile mod. while you are in there though, you might as well go ahead and get a limited slip and have it built. i mean. if you are really serious.

6. the only problem with getting blown. and i say this because you are a guy, is that getting blown means you are going to want to get blown more, and then that will become boring, so you'll need MORE. and i only say this because i dont' want you to be disappointed in yourself or end up unhappy in your relationship. with your car i mean.

the problem with the motor is it all depends on how you treat it and what kind of maintenance you keep on it. it sounds like you aren't going to be treating well enough to be able to care for it. it would be a better option to build it to take some abuse if you want to abuse it. and especially since if you are going to get blown you should do it right.

Turbo's aren't taht hard. in fact, it's a better option i think, however to each his own and all that jazz, but it isnt' as hard as you'd think it is and allows more flexibility as far as getting power sooner, and also, a bolt on turbo is generally going to run 20+ lbs of boost, without anything other than a 40$ MBC and providing you can have it tuned.

boost, wideband o2, and oil pressure i think are the most important.

7. carbon fiber is difficult to maintain and can be very fragile. it also expands and contracts with the temperature making it difficult to close in adverse temperatures. that being said it IS lightweight and provides an excellent weight reduction. so does taking out the spare, backseat, etc.

1G-4G is the specific era of car you have (the G stands for generation...1G being the oldest body style, 4G being the new 06+ body). We are 3G'ers. Its the same deal if you hear people talk about Corvettes as C5 or C6 (in that case the C stands for Corvette and the number again refers to what body style it is).

Re: Just got my 01 eclipse, gonna mod it.

1. go with a CAI prefer AEM or INJEN get the full CAI not the short ram =D

2. way over priced for that. take a venture into www.club3g.com or www.neweclipse.org you can find exhaust there that delete the cat for anything under 300 if someone is selling them.

3. since you have a sporty.. the trans is good up to 400hp i think dont quote me on it. so your ok with the trans. and for motor mounts i strongly suggest deyeme racing motor mounts. http://www.deyemeracing.com/ to take away the horrible wheel hop our cars have when launching.

4. it depends.. fed spec parts are harder to find then cali spec.

5. only if you go supercharge or turbo. but you would notice a little gain from a NA engine.

6. i would prefer you to really go with turbo.. more efficient. and more power for the boost.. no matter what.. anything over 275 i would really suggest you builing a race block/shortblock with forged pistons, rods and have it all bored out. other then that..if you dont your stock pistons if im correct are the GT pistons and are very crappy as are. www.tearstone.com

7. if you drag or if the cf hood has vents and you have a turbo.. that would be great for it also. i dont see any disavantage either.. spend 500 on hood.. get what... less weight on car.. *note our car is a pig heavy as hell* and if its got vents helps the engine ifyou have turbo cool down a bit faster. *do not quote me on taht either*

Answer to General Question about Your 2001 Sporty Transmission.
i Currently Run a turbo charged car. at MAX 8psi fear of blowing a piston. and im getting 300hp and tranny is holding out quite well. i think i was told if i can recalll 400whp? maybe.. i will have to check.

Answer to your Launching Question. on my sporty 2001 have it in *1*
hold the brake down as hard as you can * left foot* press gas *right foot*
your rpm needle should be around the 2.5k area. due to your STOCK torque convert. when its time to launch release foot off brake.. and watch the car i guess put you back in your seat =D

Yes I understand this...I never said he wasnt a 3ger. I was explaining things to him because he asked.....I dont care what the fuck you have done to your car because this is no reason to post in a shit load of older threads (not really this one), but some of the other ones.......If the topic has been answered, we dont need your 2cents. Im not an asshole, just get pissed off easy with noobs trying to be a teacher.
