3000gt vs Mustang GT

Alright, we have already done this numerous times but I figured I would share finally. My roomate has a 02 Mustang GT with a short throw and K&N CAI. I have an intake. First race we did a 25 mph roll and I actually gained on him for about a second or two because he was not in his ideal spot in the power band and then he made it back up with my front bumper at the rear of his door when we shut down at 70mph. Next race we do a it from a dig and he immediately puts about a car and a half to two car lengths on me and then I stayed with him all the way up to about 60 or so with him beating me by a few car lengths. Next race is a roll from 15 mph and he gets me by about a car length and then loses traction so I was able to gain just a bit on him and ended up about a car length behind as we shut down a bit over 70. The last race we go from 20 mph and it was completely even all the way to 80 mph. I was very hesitant in posting this because people would think that I am just blowing hot air but that is how it all happend. I plan on racing him a few more times before summer too and I am REALLY hoping to get a camera so we can get it on vid but neither of us has one so we are going to hunt one down. I am going to try and get a video of this anyway possible though.

Thats impressive. I remember you mentioning that once before how you stayed with him. What do those run stock? high 14's? Anyways, nice kill and that would be awesome if you could get that on video!

Re: 3000gt vs Mustang GT

i think the best u'd see with a CAI is a 14.4 or so... they're really much slower than the general public thinks.

Re: 3000gt vs Mustang GT

People have run low 14s with them stock. I have seen it, I didn't do it for sure, but its certainly possible.

Well I never was able to actually get a win in. There was one time where it was completely even until we shut down at about 80 but I have yet to actually beat him. And like I said the second we get a chance to get it on video we will. I just have to try and do it before summer when he moves out of here.

Re: 3000gt vs Mustang GT

99+ Mustang GT's can either be dogs or run decent. They tested an automatic convertible 99+ Mustang GT to a 15 sec. flat 1/4 mile. The majority of the hardtop/manual GT's run low 14's (If you ask the majority of the owners they'll tell you they can run 13's ). Anyways, not doubting your kill, but was your buddy in an automatic or a manual equipped GT?

You've got more or less 222hp as I recall, and eventhough you don't have all wheel drive, your car still isn't very light. It would either have to be driver error, or the guy had the slushbox transmission.

Re: 3000gt vs Mustang GT

He does have the 5 spd manual as I said I put in his short throw for him. And I also did not beat him, not even once. The closest I came was a dead even tie.
