Not strictly McLaren - but you will like this rare sight - pics

Hi guys,

I know this is not strictly McLaren F1 related but I know you guys are passionate about cars and will appreciate this post anyway.

I posted some pics on Tuesday on Pistonheads.com of a Jaguar XJ220 I had seen parked on a side street in Stoke on Trent, UK

Well I was in Stoke again today and decided to drive past the same place again to see if it was still there.

I turned the corner and nearly crashed my car when I saw what was parked there today.

I had to get out of my car and have a closer look.

3 XJ220's in the same place and was especially chuffed to have seen the Yellow XJ220S.

As I got back in my car and drove away I noticed something else parked up a side street next to the building: -

This is an original Jaguar XJR12 that competed at Le Mans in 1990.

I have since found out that this building is actually home to Don Law Racing a company that services and repairs about 70% of the XJ220's in existence.

What a day after this I had to go home and lie down in a dark room.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

Regards

Tim

Well I will let it ride on the grounds that the Yellow 220S was previously Mr Bridger's car.

What a sighting - color me jealous. I'd love to have that blue XJ220 that is sitting there. I can imagine how cool it must have been to 'stumble' upon that set. I've actually heard of Don Law Racing before too.

It's kind of funny - everytime I see pics of the yellow 220S, I can't help but think of these.

Can't believe the car I saw racing at Le-mans in 1990 is sitting outside a workshop in Stoke, expected it to be kept in a museum in air conditioned luxury.

carbuilder the XJR12LM was kept in a museum by TWR until 2003 and was then auctioned off when the company shall we say hit hard times.

Very nice !

What a chance !
Why so many XJ220 have so little mileage ? Like 400 or 1000 miles at the clock ?

Re: Not strictly McLaren - but you will like this rare sight - pics

The XJ220 is still one of my favorite cars. The only time I have ever seen one in person was years and years ago when they raced at Indianapolis Raceway Park, on their small oval. There were 6 or 8 of them. Different race car drivers got the seat time, and just did small races. However, I did witness two of them touching in between turn 3 and 4, both spinning out and both hit the outside wall on the drivers side pretty hard. They usually have midget races on Saturday nights at IRP. This race was done before the midgets went out. Why they did it, I don't know. It's not like it was good advertising or anything, because none of the rednecks that go to the midget races can afford them, and it wasn't broadcasted on TV that I know of. I usually don't go to the midget races, but a friend of my dads had just picked up a ride with a team, so we went out to watch him. After all the races, they had the XJ220s sitting out so you could see them. They were roped off, but you could get close to them. Well, all of them except the two that were wrecked. They had already hidden them in the trailers. There was an article about the XJ220 years back in I believe Car & Driver. The car they used for the article, was at the time, owned by a guy about a half an hour from where I live. Unfortunately, I never venture up that way to get lucky enough to see it on the road. If I ever win the lottery, it will be one of my first purchases, of course after a couple F1s.
