Possible U-joint problem????

I have a '98 v6 4.0 4x4. When I take off from a stop a sometimes hear a kink noise come from under the truck it seems. I heard this could be the u-joint. What do you think? Is there a way to test the u-joint to see if it is still good or should I check something else?

Re: Possible U-joint problem????

U-joint problems are more noticeable when the vehicle is moving. When the needle bearings become defective, they will wear out and will cause the u-joint and the drive shaft to vibrate. The "clunking' sound may be related to a transmission problem. Could also be a differential gear problem.
