Engine Swap Question

Is it possible to fit a 87-91 Toyota Supra single turbo 7MGTE Engine in a ’95 Tacoma.
I know you need the motor mounts, ECU and probable the wiring harness, but I want to know if it will just fit in the engine compartment.

Re: Engine Swap Question

Well, first off is it a 95.5 Tacoma, or a 95 Toyota truck? Both were made that year. I know people put them into the trucks, but I do not know of anybody that has put one in a Tacoma.

Second, what motor are you replacing? The 7MGTE is known for blowing head gaskets left and right, and only makes about 230 HP. There are better options out there.

Re: Engine Swap Question

It's a 95.5 Tacoma with a 2.4L 4cyl with 142HP 230hp-142hp= 88hp I think thats prety good.
the only reson I thought of the 7MGTE is becouse I thought it was a smaller V6
than the last gen engine and still had a turbo, but if you say it blows head gaskets if you know of a beter one with out going insane on the price please let me know.

Also I am asking for my brother, if he had it his way he would try to shove a 350 chevy in their.

Re: Engine Swap Question

The 7Ms head gasket problems can be fixed with a metal head gasket, but that requires the block and head to be machined. That ups the budget a bit. Well, 2JZs are kind of pricy, as is the LS1. The 5VZFE which is the 3.4 V6 which comes in the Tacoma runs about $1500 or so used. The 1UZ, the 4L V8 in 400 series Lexus vehicles, isn't a bad option. You can do a 4.3 Chevy swap. They can be had for about $600. The list goes on and on.

One thing to consider, check your local emissions laws. Some states do not allow you to swap in a motor that is older than the model year of the truck.
