Post 2000 Grand Am Shift Points

I have a 2000 Grand Am GT and the fuel pump has been acting up recently so i had it replaced. Since the fuel pump has been replaced it doesn't seem like the car has as much power as it used to. The car revs up real high but it doesn't accelerate like it used. I was wondering if someone with a similar car (stock) could post there mph at shift points for 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. Something just doesn't seem right. Thanks for you help.

Re: 2000 Grand Am Shift Points

Did you change the fuel filter when you replaced the FP?

1st-2nd usually around 45-50mph
2nd-3rd about 85
depending on how hard you push it you could red line it to around 90mphish

And this all depends on how well the engine and its components are working. If you have high miles and things havnt been maintained then the results can be different.

I think once or twice I have pushed 2nd up close to 100.
But this was with a CAI & small exhaust modification.
Even altitude can change these perameters.

and Welcome to AF.

The fuel filter was also changed. Another thing that i forgot to mention is since this has happened the govoner no longer shuts the car off when it reaches 110mph. I've had it up around 125-130 without shutting off and this is with a stock PCM. What could have caused this?

Hard telling, could be your fuel pressure regulator or just bad gas.
It should limit the speed to 125ish but it doesnt shut the car off, just limits the speed and rpms.

If 1-2 is 45ish then 2-3 should be close to twice that, then 3 to what ever and OD(4).

I'll see if I can get a video of these shifts & thier appropriate speed(s).

And I could be totally wrong,
but who the hell looks how fast thier going anyways

Re: 2000 Grand Am Shift Points

You are correct about the car shutting off. The car didn't shut off but when it hit the 110mph mark it wouldn't allow me to accelerate until it slowed down to about 70-80mph. The fuel pump problem kept shutting the car off and then after i had the fuel pump and filter replaced the govoner would no longer kick in. I believe i had it going up around 130mph without the govonor restricting my speed. It's been like this for a while so its not bad gas. The car doesn't actually shut off anymore since the fuel pump and filter have been changed and the govonor no longer restricts the speed.

Re: 2000 Grand Am Shift Points

Ya Vipey your SE is about the same as the GT, within 5mph.

My stock GT w/CAI & custom exhaust
1-2 pushed to redline(6000rpms) 45-48mph
2-3 pushed to redline 82 mph
3-4 I havent pushed it that fast or hard

And my SE is a little faster(& quicker),
but it has the 4T45E, GT trans.
