dharma punx

i read this book a few months ago. im not too into reading, but i had to do it (school project shit) so i picked this up.. about a kid who grew up in the punk scene in santa cruz, started smokin weed, drinking and doin lsd at age 10, moved onto harder shit by the time he was 17 he was full blown heroin/crack addict. he moved onto meditation and buddhist stuff as a way out and is now a buddhist teacher. awesome book regarding redemption and whatnot, check it out if you get a chance.. the first half makes you want to get wasted and start fights lol

I find this to be a problem with most people. Shame.

This doesn't sound like very inspirational literature. Again... shame.

Glad you read a book though even if it was for school...

Re: dharma punx

first of all, ive gotten alot more into books like this since i read this story. second, its not like ive never read a book before.
third, i was making a statement that he puts you in the story, especially in the beginning regarding his rough childhood. and whereas alot of people can relate to getting drunk and fighting, i thought this would make people realize, hey, maybe i would find some interest in this. but thanks for the criticism.

Re: dharma punx

Oh I wasn't trying to be critical or anything. I am just hardcore advocate of reading books. I totally understand where you're coming from too. I was out of the fiction loop for a long time due to college but then I picked up "The Electric Kool-aid Acid Test" book by Tom Wolfe and I've read at least 100 books since. Gotta love drugs and violence in fiction. It totally motivates you to read more... haha.

Re: dharma punx

"The Electric Kool-aid Acid Test" is pretty much non-fiction. It is sort of an autobiography of Ken Kesie, author of "One Flew Over the CooCoos Nest", and was published in the late 60s. It describes the journey of the Merry Pranksters, or hippies that traveled around in the sixties in an old school bus as well as many other things. Here is a wiki link that describes it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ele...-Aid_Acid_Test

This method of "journalism" is very similar to the late Hunter S. Thompson and the TEKAT even describes some run-ins with the Hells Angels and The Grateful Dead (when they first started).

Reading this non-fiction stimulated me to read more fiction to compare the outrageous events of the imagination with what outrageous events took place back then and what outrageous events have occurred in my own life. It really puts things in perspective...
