transfer case issue!!!

Hello! I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer LS. It has a NP 236 transfer case that has the 2hi, 4hi, 4lo, and 4wd auto selectors. It started out by the 4hi flashing when trying to engage 4wd but it wouldn't engage. Now it does absolutely nothing. I have checked fuse number 15 10amp fuse and it is ok. I have checked the connections on the transfer case and seem to be dry and connected. Don't know if I have a bad engagement motor of if something else is the problem. Any help would be hugely appreciated!!

Re: transfer case issue!!!

There is also is a ATC fuse in the under hood fuse block.
But if the light was flashing to start with it has a problem.
You will need to get it on a transfer case /transmission/engine capable scanner and read data and run the test on out and get codes.
If you can get the code or codes post back code no.
And we can help.

Re: transfer case issue!!!

I checked the ATC 20amp fuse and it is ok. I have tried to locate a facility that has the code scanner for the transmission / transfer case before and no luck. I also unplugged the negative terminal for about fourty minutes and no luck. I also unplugged the vacuum lines above the distributor and have vacuum on the bottom connection. when I connected the two vacuum lines together I was able to hear the vacuum plunger operate? at least that what I thought it was.

Did you see this in the "How to/Tech" section?

Look the how to over and check the basic but after that you will need a good scanner and good repair info to check and test it out to point you in the right direction.
Let us know how it goes.

Any good repair shop or dealer should have a good scanner.

Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Tip on going to the dealer
Ask that only a factory certified gasoline engine and transmission and transfer case performance specialist work on your car.
Not all dealerships are concerned with how repairs are dispatched, and not all dealership techs bother to take advantage of the training offered by factory (the vast majority of which is paid training). If the dealer is uncooperative, ask for your money back and call around for a dealer that will accommodate you.

Re: transfer case issue!!!

Tools are best but basics are to look at the vac lines under hood drivers side for rot and to the tank in the fender - tight fit but you can get 5/32" hose back on. Then follow to the underhood mounted vac solenoid on firewall and that line then goes down to the front actuator. Common for that solenoid to leak or not fuction and dealer for $25. Replaced my 99 and 01 solenoids. Remember that the front axle coupler has to engage for any 4wd mode to work and the sensor on the axle has to tell the TCCM it has. Always try and get 4Hi to work first (simplest) as your Autotrac case 236 always has the front driveshaft engaged. If you are in a salt use state then that encoder motor can be binding up on the trabsfer case - How To posts may help.

Re: transfer case issue!!!

Would it be possible that it is a vacuum issue when I try and change the transfer case to a different gear and nothing happens? no light changes, 2hi stays lit and that is it. I was thinking that either the motor or tccm would be my only problem.
