I have a 96 grand am that is leaking coolant from where a hose should be on the firewall. there is a L piece that connects to it, but no hose. It probably came off on the highway. but i have no idea where the hose would run to. any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to AF boogieok.
Sounds like your heater core hose has blown. Either engine will have the hoses in the same location. Best way to see this is from below the engine compartment. If you do investigate, use jack stands when you raise the vehicle!!!
