02 tacoma drivetrain noise/ transfer case
I have an 02 tacoma 4x4 that has a bearing type whine at lower speeds under 10-15 mph, after that I cannot hear it , it might still be there but I cant hear it with all the other noise .
with the rear jacked up and spinning (it does not start right away), when the wheels start turning it takes about 10 revolutions of the wheel before it starts, it is kinda like a light bearing rub or similar sound to brake shoes rubbing??? it is coming from the area around the transfer case and the companion flange it does it in forward and reverse. Any ideas ??? Last edited by mikeolivertx; 03-19-2007 at 07:19 PM. |

Re: 02 tacoma drivetrain noise/ transfer case
Have the driveshaft fittings ever been lubricated? If not I would try lubricating them before tearing into anything. Check the information at the top of this forum for instructions.

Re: 02 tacoma drivetrain noise/ transfer case
If your driveshaft has a center bearing it may be the noise source. It doesn't have a grease fitting.
